Dr Jan Cameron replaces John Jennings who has retired after having led the Unit since 2002.
Jan was previously Dean of Arts (1996-1998) and then Assistance Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (1998-2010) at the University of Canterbury. She has a BSc in Zoology from the University of Canterbury, and an MSocSc and DPhil in Sociology from the University of Waikato. Formerly a teacher in Canterbury's Sociology Department, she also has substantial management experience. Her recent responsibilities at Canterbury included the Academic Quality Assurance Unit and the University Centre for Teaching and Learning; she has managed the quality assurance and audit processes over a cycle of two academic audits. Jan has extensive national experience of academic audit, programme approval and accreditation and served for many years on the Committee for University Academic Programmes of the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors' Committee (NZVCC) and as the NZVCC representative on the Inter-Institutional Quality Assurance Bodies Consultative Group and the Secondary Principals and Leaders' Forum.
Jan took up the position of third Director at the beginning March 2010.
