Unit history - a brief overview

Activities

The Unit has completed Cycle 3 academic audits of all eight universities during 2003-2006.  The framework of the audits was teaching quality, programme delivery and the achievement of learning outcomes.  The reports of all audits in cycle 3 are available on this website (click here) and each includes details of the framework.

Cycle 4 audits which are whol-of-instutution-audits are currently in progress. Reports completed are available here.

The Unit conducts compliance audits of universities against the Code of practice for the pastoral care of international students under contract to the Ministry of Education and with the support of the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee.

The Unit has audited universities' quality assurance processes for Adult and Community Education to ensure continued Government funding for appropriate courses offered in this area.

It has been monitoring universities against the policy statement on PhD supervision of international students agreed to by the then Minister of Education and the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee in 2005.   This monitoring is under contract with the Ministry of Education.

People

Three groups contribute to the Unit's work, the secretariat, the governing Board, and the register of Auditors.

The secretariat undertakes Unit administration and organisation. The work of the Unit fluctuates depending on audit cycle commitments, and to accommodate this the Director arranges additional support as required.
