Academic audit
NZUAAU carries out audits of New Zealand universities every five years. Themes for audit cycles to date have been:
- Cycle 1 1995-1998 – Whole of institution
- Cycle 2 2000-2001 – Research, and a theme chosen by the institution
- Cycle 3 2002-2007 – Teaching and Learning
- Cycle 4 2008-2012 – Whole of institution.
Guidelines and evaluation questions for each audit are published in the Audit Manual for that cycle.

The Audit Manual for Cycle 4 is available here. Audit panels comprise auditors from the Cycle 4 Register and an overseas external member.
In addition NZUAAU carries out occasional theme audits, the most recent of which was on the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Education in 2008.
