The New Zealand Universities Academic Audit Unit (NZUAAU) was established in 1993 to carry out audits of the processes in universities which underpin academic quality. NZUAAU contributes to a high quality New Zealand university education by engaging as a leader and advocate in the development of universities based on high quality, internationally acceptable, academic practices, and by providing quality assurance and quality enhancement services which assist universities in facilitating excellent student experience and learning outcomes.

Academic Quality Assurance of New Zealand Universities is a joint publication of the New Zealand Universities Academic Audit Unit and Universities New Zealand - Te Pōkai Tara. This 12-page brochure provides an overview of quality assurance in the New Zealand university sector.

Latest publications

The final report of the Cycle 4 academic audit of the University of Otago is now available.

At the request of Universities New Zealand - Te Pōkai Tara, NZUAAU completed an audit of the Committee on University Academic Programmes (CUAP) in September 2011. The final report of the audit was released on 9 December 2011.

This NZUAAU Series on Quality report brings together the 21 university audit reports completed between 2000 and 2010.

NZUAAU's Annual Report for 2011 (incorporating financial statements for the period 1 July 2010 - 30 June 2011) has been released.

The NZUAAU Board has determined that the next cycle of academic audits will focus on teaching, learning and student support. Cycle 5 academic audits will commence in the second half of 2013.

NZUAAU is a full member of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network and of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education.
